Cartridge Solutions For A Small Pool
If you have a small pool, you might want to consider a cartridge filter. Cartridge filters are ideal for small pools that require little maintenance, but they also have some disadvantages and require more maintenance.
They can’t be backwashed, as such water loss is minimal, so pools with cartridge filters tend to be more water efficient. They’re not ideal for large pools, are easy to install and reasonably priced, but limited in strength and filtration is less fine than a sand filter and need regular replacement.
A Finer Filter
Of the three types of swimming pool filters, diatomaceous earth pool filters capture the finest particles—as small as 3 microns. The filtration is through an extremely fine powder made of fossilised plankton.
The filter is backwashed like the sand filter and on completion needs fresh diatomaceous earth powder added.
Though it is the most effective pool filter, it is the most expensive and requires more maintenance than a cartridge filter, and washed-out diatomaceous earth needs careful disposal as it is a hazardous material. It’s ideal for larger and commercial pools and needs replacing every two to three years and cleaning every six months.
